World's Largest Dome Roof - Singapore Sports Hub




Singapore Sports Hub was being planned for years, but got detailed due to the global financial crisis. However, now it has restarted again and will be opened for the public by 2014. It is a 35-hectare sports complex and will have the world’s largest dome roof when completed. The architecture of the sports complex has been designed by Arup and it will be the National Stadium in Singapore.

It will have 55,000 seats with retractable dome roof covering 310 m (1,017 feet). The dome roof will be made from ultra-thin steel giving structural support with weight per square meter. The total steel weight is 8,881 tons. The dome roof has been designed with high-tech style as it will be serving as a giant projector screen that will have one of the largest addressable LED screens in the world.

It will have an energy efficient cooling system to provide cool air for every seat in place and the roof will provide shading during the day. All kinds of sports events can be hosted in the stadium. It is being built on the same site as the National Stadium, but now will serve as a ground for Singapore Sports Hub.

There are many other sports complexes designed around the world, with wonderful architecture, designs, arrangements, technology and cater to all kinds of sports events. But Singapore Sports Hub will boast the world’s largest dome roof. It will also have an indoor aquatic center with a capacity of 6,000.
